A couple of days ago, comedic actor and frequent talent show host Nick Cannon (formerly Amerca's Got Talent , now The Masked Singer ) was apparently fired from his production deal with major entertainment studio Viacom-CBS, the reason being for criticism leveled at him for a filmed podcast, "Nick Cannon's Class". Cannon has been featuring this podcast on YouTube for the last several years as he has pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology from Howard University in Washington, D.C. The podcast episode that went viral in all the wrong ways featured Public Enemy band member Professor Griff. In the episode the pair discuss a range of topics including provocative assertions about the anthropological origins of Europeans/Caucasians, white supremacy, "the original Hebrews" and related topics that eventually zeroed in on certain conspiracy theories. Stuff that might be shared at the barbershop, beauty salon, in the living room or backyard play

Insurance Card, Please A few days before Christmas of 2016, I stopped by an urgent care health clinic, so I could attempt to get some clarity on what was going on with my legs and hands. I learned that the tingles in my lower legs—which I was now feeling in my left hand—was a result of diabetic neuropathy. The nerve endings in my extremities were now becoming damaged, and it was leaving a permanent state of “edginess” in my feet and hands. Worse—after a fashion—I was now finding that my driving foot would start falling asleep when I would drive, sometimes mere minutes after I got started with a trip. For well over a year at that point I was wearing these stockings that reportedly help manage circulation better. Only it wasn’t really getting better. I made the choice that I needed to get healthier. Part of that was going to involve exercise. Back in 2013, a Planet Fitness workout center opened up in a shopping plaza near Eight Mile and Woodward Avenue in Detroit. I

Unsolicited Anecdote #8090 (or thereabouts; I don’t keep exact track. I should probably sleep on this and edit later, but… Ah, heck. I might as well go all in.) At the time that I took this photo, I had just visited a Meijer grocery store to pick up a few things. This is a bus stop near the intersection of Telegraph Road and 12 Mile. Southfield, Michigan is to the northwest of Detroit’ s city limits and this particular intersection is well into the suburb. There’s road construction work being done on this stretch of road, so the bus stop itself was apparently deemed off-limits (hence the yellow tape) in the interim. At some point in recent weeks, apparently somebody decided to do a bit of 'street-activism' and anchor two large boards to the bus stop and spray paint the messages that you see here. The statem ent with ‘Maya Angelou’ in tinier spray-paint is paraphrased from a quote attributed to the late author & activist; “Nothing will work unless you do”. For
